Lifelong User Modelling Goals, Issues and Challenges
نویسنده
چکیده
The combination of low and falling costs of storage, combined with increasingly pervasive and ubiquitous computing are creating the possibility of very long term user modelling. This paper explores some of the fundamental questions about the nature of a lifelong user model. It begins by exploring the relationship between the new goals that lifelong user models can support and the concomitant issues and challenges. We then explore the nature of what belongs in the user model, and what does not. From these foundations of the goals that the lifelong user model must serve, we discuss drivers for the design of systems which implement lifelong user models. We conclude with discussion of broad issues that follow from our analysis, proposing a roadmap for research needed to achieve lifelong user models.

2nd Workshop on LifeLong User Modelling
Recent technological developments enabled users to create detailed log files containing their everyday activities. These log files, also referred to as lifelogs, open gates for interesting new research challenges, such as the identification of long-term and short-term user interests and behaviour. In the context of this workshop, we focus on an emerging challenge, namely the creation of lifelon...

Copyright is held by the author/owner(s). CHI 2012, May 5–10, 2012, Austin, TX, USA. ACM xxx-x-xxxx-xxxx-x/xx/xx. Abstract Goals and goal-setting play an important role in personal informatics because they link the data within personal informatics systems to core problems in people’s lives. This paper presents a framework for personal informatics based on a user model representing user goals. W...
متن کاملLifelong robot-assisted mobility: Models, Tools, and Challenges
Increasing the autonomy of users with disabilities through robot-assisted mobility has the potential of facilitating their sensorimotor and social development, as well as reducing the burden of caring for such populations in both inpatient and outpatient settings. While techniques for task-specific assistance exist, they are largely focused on satisfying shortterm goals, utilising stationary us...
متن کاملMATHEMATICAL MODELLING FOR DICE FINDER GAME PROBLEM
Play is often episodic and mission-centric, with a series of challenges culminating in a final puzzle or enemy that must be overcome. Multiple missions played with the same characters may be related to each other in a plot arc of escalating challenges. The exact tone, structure, pace and end (if any) vary from game to game depending on the needs and preferences of the players, as in [9]. "THE C...
متن کاملProceedings of the Lifelong User Modelling Workshop, at UMAP'09 User Modeling Adaptation, and Personalization
This paper explores an architecture for very long term user modelling, based upon personal user model clouds. These ensure that the individual’s applications can access their model whenever it is needed. At the same time, the user can control the use of their user model. So, they can ensure it is accessed only when and where they wish, by applications that they wish. We consider the challenges ...
